Funding and Partnerships
Institute for IDEAS collaborates with universities and industry partners worldwide. In addition, faculty affiliated with the Institute for IDEAS participate in various ongoing collaborations and partnerships with University of Turin, UWaterloo, and more. The Institute for IDEAS is externally funded by federal research agencies and non-profit foundations. To date, the faculty affiliated with the Institute for IDEAS has raised over $10,000,000 in external funding.

University of Turin
Our collaboration with the University of Turin, one of the world’s oldest universities founded in 1404, involves contributions to Dr. Pietro Cipresso’s laboratory and his pioneering work on affective dynamics within the realms of virtual reality and artificial intelligence. The Institute is currently hosting two PhD students from the Department of Psychology, specializing in psychometrics for affective dynamics.
George Washington University
Our active research project with George Washington University is a project, funded by a $1.5m NSF grant, that focuses on using volumetric capture and spatial computing to augment the training process for remote medical personnel.
American University
The Institute for IDEAS is currently located at American University. This is where the volumetric studio is also located. The faculty of American University, including the founding director of the Institute, come from American University. American University students participate in many of the Institute’s projects. Our collaboration is close and we are thankful to the American University for their continous support.
University of Silesia
University of Silesia participated in many of the Institute for IDEAS projects, including the “Robot with Humor” and a multiple VR/AR art projects. Our collaboration with fine arts faculty at the University of Silesia allows us to access incredibally skillful 3D artists for our projects.
California State Polytechnic University

UWaterloo
In collaboration with School of Health and Health Systems, University of Waterloo, using low-cost EEG Brain Computer Interface (BCI), this project aims at improving proportional reasoning of children. The game adapts the difficulty of the proportional reasoning, LEGO-balancing task based on the attention level of the player as provided by the BCI device.
